In The Community
Seniors
For more than nine years, the staff and shareholders of Epsten Grinnell & Howell have supported ElderHelp of San Diego. ElderHelp is an organization that provides a wide array of support services to seniors, enabling many to remain independent and live in their own homes as long as possible. The ElderHelp mission emphasizes dignity, and aids seniors regardless of age, income, ethnic, religious or health status. Recognizing that the frail elderly can be forgotten at the holidays, the firm has provided more than 300 holiday gift baskets containing food, toiletries, stamps, grocery gift cards, transportation vouchers, and small personal gift items. In addition, the firm adopts at least ten seniors each holiday and personally shops to fulfill their individual wish lists. These wishes can range from new clothing and shoes, to a new love seat or recliner. It is estimated that our staff has contributed almost $40,000 to help the seniors of San Diego through support for ElderHelp. Additionally, the firm also supports the skilled nursing and assisted living services offered to the elderly at Seacrest Village. We help underwrite the Seacrest Village annual Golf & Tennis fundraising event, and an annual dinner dance.
Children
While visiting Mexico for an annual client meeting, Jon Epsten became acquainted with the important community work being done by the Eagles Wings Foundation, a charitable organization whose mission assists children in impoverished areas of Mexico. From scholarship support that helps children stay in school to financial aid for orphanages and day care centers, the Eagles Wings Foundation has been providing support since 1999. Epsten Grinnell & Howell is pleased to provide financial assistance and pro bono legal services to help sustain the very worthwhile efforts of this community organization.
Habitat for Humanity
Epsten Grinnell & Howell was pleased to participate in the April 2010 home building project organized by the San Diego legal community. Eight of the firm’s attorneys signed-up to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity, an organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Because of the tremendous response from the local legal community, not all attorneys who signed-up were tapped to participate but, those who did, enjoyed laying the foundation and undertaking basic construction of a multiple family dwelling located in National City, just south of San Diego.

Continuing its long-standing support of worthwhile community projects, Epsten Grinnell & Howell was pleased to contribute financially to dozens of organizations during 2009. The organizations that benefited from the firm’s support spanned a broad range of community activities including projects for our youth, our law enforcement and military personnel, and organizations addressing health needs such as cancer, strokes and heart attacks, and cleft lip/cleft palate surgery for children.
